Japanese Restaurants

About Japanese Restaurants

Japanese Restaurants is an independent guide for Australians who love Japanese food, or want to try it with more confidence. We publish plain-language guides in three areas: dishes, covering sushi and sashimi, ramen, udon and soba, and washoku; dining out, covering types of Japanese restaurants, etiquette, menu terms and sake; and eating safely, covering raw fish, food allergies, pregnancy and gluten-free eating. Our free menu decoder explains common Japanese menu words in plain English.

Why we exist

This web address was once home to a Melbourne restaurant directory, which later closed. We have no connection to that business or to any restaurant it listed. Japanese food is now part of everyday eating in Australia, but menus can still be confusing, and good safety advice for raw fish, allergies and pregnancy is spread across many official sources. We want to bring it together clearly.

How we work

We write every guide in our own words. For food safety and health facts, we rely on official sources such as Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ), the NSW Food Authority, healthdirect, Coeliac Australia, ASCIA and Allergy & Anaphylaxis Australia. For dishes and etiquette, we draw on the Japan National Tourism Organization and other official Japanese sources. We list our sources on each page. We never invent statistics, prices, reviews or quotes, and we don't review, rank or recommend restaurants.

Independence

Japanese Restaurants (japaneserestaurants.com.au) is an independent information site. We are not a restaurant, booking service, directory or health authority, and we are not affiliated with, endorsed by or operated by any organisation named on this site, any previous operator of this domain, or any organisation with a similar name.

General information only

Our guides are general information, not medical, dietary or allergy advice. If you have a food allergy, coeliac disease, are pregnant or have a weakened immune system, follow the advice of your doctor or specialist.

Feature your business

If you run a Japanese restaurant, food business or cooking school and want to reach our readers, see feature your business. Featured listings are always clearly labelled and never affect what our guides say.
